What is Dimethiconol or Dimethiconol?
Dimethiconol is also known as silicone gum, it is actually a slightly modified dimethicone. 
Here, two side chains carrying the methyl group have been replaced by hydroxyl (-OH) groups. 
Silicones are larger molecules, and when applied to any surface, perhaps skin or hair, they form a film that is breathable but does not allow moisture to escape. 
Siloxanes are the main units of polydimethylsiloxanes, in turn, dimethiconol. 

Dimethiconol is often combined with amino acids such as cysteine, methionine or arginine or fatty acids such as stearic fatty acids or behenic acid) and some other compounds to form a derivative that is useful as a cosmetic ingredient.

Uses & Benefits
Dimethiconol is used for its unique film-forming property, like other derivatives; it also has excellent dispersal ability. 
Dimethiconol gives a temporary improved appearance to the skin, when applied it fills in fine lines and wrinkles and makes them less visible. 
Dimethiconol stabilizes any preparation for the presentation, since it prevents the formation of foams. 

What happens is that by shaking or handling, foams can be created on top of a product, where it is not just foam but air trapped in the preparation, which can lead to destabilization of a product, sometimes the emulsion can also separate into two distinct phases. 

Dimethoconol is also used as an antistatic agent, this property is particularly useful in conditioners or shampoos where it dramatically improves the look and feel of the hair. In addition, the antistatic effect helps the hair remain untangled. 

As mentioned above, it is also a film former, this effect not only helps the product to exert its proper effect, but also protects the skin from other harmful environmental effects, retains moisture, and helps the skin stay hydrated.
